Word of the Day

March 2, 2022

Mark 14:38 says, ‘Watch and pray.’
The Lord Jesus never asked very much from His disciples. But here we find at the end of His ministry, and soon to be His life, He asked His disciples to ‘watch and pray.’ He did not tell them what to pray for or how long to pray, but just to watch and pray.
Taking time to pray seems to be one of our less than favorite things to do. It's only when life seems to come apart or the pressure of life overcomes us that we even try to pray. I know for myself it's hard to even find the time to pray.
Jesus made time to pray. When He first started His ministry He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to fast and pray. Here, in His time of trouble, we see Him not only drawing away to pray for Himself but asking others to do the same. Prayer is not a ‘should I,’ but a must. It keeps us in full assurance of our blessing. If we do not ask we do not receive. Jesus told His disciples that it would even keep them from falling into temptation. He also noted that our biggest enemy against praying would be ourselves. He said, ‘The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’
This week set aside just five minutes a day, just you and God. Then see how the rest of the week goes, and notice how temptation seems to be easier to resist.
There's power in your life.
James 1:1-8
