Matthew 11:29-30 are verses that seem to me to be what I would call practice verses. They say 'take my yoke upon you and learn from me. For I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.'
I say they are practice verses because everything gets in the way of life. Sometimes life seems to be uncomfortable or just plain out of hand. If something is not going wrong, just wait and it will go wrong. If I don't mess up my day, sure enough, someone else will. If we look at the verse just before these two we will find out why Jesus said what He said. It says 'come to me ALL you who labor and are heavy laden.'
Life was not meant to be easy, as we live life we find that it becomes very heavy at times, and very labor intensive. But the promise is that when it does, we can learn to practice the art of leaning. If He could carry His cross to Golgotha, then He is able to help us carry anything we might face in life. When two carry a load it becomes easy and controllable. It becomes easy to handle and to deal with. Those verses never say that life will be easy to live, yet easier to live when I practice the art of leaning.
When you find yourself stressed, worried and just burden down with life, take a moment to share the load with Jesus. He can't carry what we are not willing to share.
Learn to lean; learn to share. Life was never meant for you to live it alone. Practice leaning.
