Paul was a man with passion. No matter what he did he did it with passion. In his education, he rose to the top. In his living, he excelled. In service to his God, he served with passion. He hunted down, imprisoned, and even killed those who were against what he was taught and believed about his God.
Too often in life we also find a passion to live life the way we see fit. But the thing about a passion is that a passion can be fueled by many different things. And that fuel can be the wrong type of fuel one should be consumed by. To have a passion means something consumes one’s thoughts, focus, energy desires, and time. Paul was consumed by self-righteousness. Paul believed personal victory was the most important thing in life. But, that all changed on the road to Damascus where Paul met the Lord Jesus Christ. There, he exchanged his personal victory for eternal life. He exchanged his passion for conviction and from that moment on he lived with that personal conviction instead of a personal passion. This is the reason we see him write, ‘For the scripture says, whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame,’ Romans 10:11. Paul understood that the passion in his old life would have one day left him in shame.
Too many times we serve God with a passion instead of a conviction. The difference can be so slightly unnoticeable, but the results are eternal. Scripture says, ‘There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death,’ Proverbs 14:12.
Our prayers should be, ‘Lord take away my passion for living life, and give me a conviction to live life.’
Proverbs 14:12
