Word for the Day

On Wednesday morning I had the pleasure of presenting a lesson to the students at the school we have at our church. It was called, ‘You had better be on your toes.’
Most came from our school system, which means they have been trained by the world. As I was teaching out of Genesis about creation and our Creator, one asked about being sinful. The student said we all have sinned and are just sinners so we sin. This has a lot of Biblical truth. As we try and unravel what they have been taught compared to what the Bible teaches it can get difficult.
Yes, we are sinners. Romans 3:23 says, ‘all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ Adam was not created as a sinner but chose to sin. Romans 6:13 says, ‘Do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin.’ Adam chose to become disobedient to God's command. He obeyed then chose to disobey and created the first sin. It was a choice.
The power of God's grace is the covenant of the Holy Spirit. It gives us an inward desire to not only know God and love God but also to obey God's commands. Without His influence, we would not know anything about obeying God. Can we be taught to say yes ma'am, no sir, do this, or do that? Yes, along with many other things, but there will never be an inward desire to please or obey God. Jeremiah 31:33 says, ‘But this is the new covenant, that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ 1 John 3:24 says, ‘Now, he who keeps His commandments, abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.’
Are we sinners by choice? To live in a sinful world and to partake of those sins are two different things. When God saved me He filled my heart with His Holy Spirit, and He teaches me how to please God.
We can all do that by obeying His commands.
Genesis 1:26-31
