Word for the Day

Seven times in the first three books of Revelation we find the statement, ‘he who has an ear to hear let him hear.’ This statement was made to all seven churches.

The Hebrew writer says, ‘you have become dull of hearing.’

One of the greatest pleasures in life a man can have is to hear the voice of God. So what has happened to our hearing? Has God stopped speaking, or has He nothing to say? Is He too busy with other matters to speak to us? The answer is no. God is still speaking today as He has always spoken. The problem is we have forgotten the result of sin. Psalm 66:18 says, ‘If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.’

The ears of man are hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Too many times we are partakers of the very thing that plugs our ears.

My grandfather on my mother side was as deaf as one could be. As the old saying goes, ‘he could not hear it thunder.’ You could hear his television from a half-mile away. He was very dull of hearing. When the Bible speaks of hearing, it's not from the natural ears of man, but the spiritual. It's that voice from inside that says, ‘this is right or wrong, go this way or that way, do not do this or that, say this or that, or listen to this or that.’ If our spiritual ears get plugged it's because we have stuffed our hearts full of deceit.

It may hurt your pride a little bit to admit that you need to make a doctor's appointment to be fitted for a hearing aid; and that hearing aid is no more than repentance. But if you do you will be surprised at the thunder that you may hear again.

Hebrews 3:7-19
