Word for the Day

I used Acts, chapter two, for the foundation of fourteen sermons about the church. The basis of these sermons was what God meant for it to be, look like and act like in this wicked world. I love how Luke ended Acts chapter two. He said the true church was together continuing daily ‘breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,’ Acts 2:46. They had been given much. The Bible says, to whom much is given, from him much will be required.’ How happy they were sharing what they had, and doing what made them happy. How sad it is when we forget what made us happy. Too many times we find ourselves going back into the ways of this world. John 10:10 says, ‘the thief does not come except to steal, kill, and destroy.’ He has not forgotten who we were and knows how to entice us back to where we came from. It's so subtle, we listen there, we trip here, we forget and soon we're headed in the wrong direction. Our hearts are not full, our joy is gone, and our peace is non-existent.
By the way, all of these things are what it takes to have a simplicity of heart. What God has given us has to be protected at all times. The Bible says, ‘guard your heart.’ You are the watcher over what God has given you. And when it's gone, no one will be to blame but you. We blame everyone, but ourselves. The truth is, we have forgotten two things: first, what God has done- He saved our souls and gave us peace with Him. Second, we have forgotten to take care of what God has given us- we have all been given a great opportunity to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the ministry of reaching others. It's not hard to be what we were. The hard part is to move forward with what God has given us.
Be encouraged this morning. Check the simplicity of your heart, see where you are, and return to the breaking of bread.
Acts 2:46-47
