Good morning with a word for the day-
I have been teaching through the book of Revelation for over fifteen years on Wednesday night at my church. Not to say that to be bragging or boastful, but because I find this book intriguing. Of course we do not stay just in the book of Revelation, but yet we tie the Bible together from Genesis back to Revelation and all the books in between. I call it 'the in depth study of Revelation.' I hope to have it printed someday.
But why have we spent so long studying this book? There are several reasons. First, this is the only book of the sixty-six books that say there's a blessing for studying it. Secondly, in chapter 22 verse 7 it says "blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book." Which means to keep teaching the prophecy or to keep teaching this book to the church which will keep the church and this book alive. Thirdly, every word of this book is spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ. Fourth, it is spoken to the church and no one else. It's the only book that says in chapter 22 verse 18, "For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book; if anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the book of life." Which is a clear warning to those who would dare teach from this book. This may be the reason many never try. But it is also the book that says "I stand at the door and knock" (Rev. 3:20). This is not a call to the world to let Him in, but a call to the church to let Him back in.
As we see the gospel diluted, censored, and explained away, we can see now why we have the book of Revelation, and we can see why it's placed at the end of our precious Bible.
If we, as preachers, would spend more time teaching from Revelation instead of the Old Testament, we might find that we would have a church still fearful of the living God.
Rev. 22:9-13
